About

Julia is a costume designer based out of Toronto, Ontario who has been working in theatre for the past 12 years. She began her career as a dresser and seamstress, and was able to design her first professional show in 2015 with Drayton Entertainment. She has also spent four seasons with the Stratford Festival as a Design Assistant, gaining valuable mentorship and hands on learning while working among some of the country’s most talented designers, directors, cutters, sewers, and crafts-people.

Though her professional career is still relatively new, Julia began designing costumes while attending school at Queen’s University back in 2008. There she studied Drama and Art History, and designed many shows for local community and student lead theatre companies. After graduation Julia decided to focus on her technical skills, and began attending Fanshawe College’s Fashion Design program, fallowed by their Technical Costume Studies post-graduate program. While attending Fanshawe Julia worked in summer stock theatre and fringe shows, using her new skills right away.

At the time of theatre closures due to Covid19, Julia was working as the design assistant for Wendy and Peter Pan and Wolf Hall at the Stratford Festival, and the costume designer for The Sweet Delilah Swim Club at Drayton Entertainment. While she is heartbroken that these - and thousands of other - productions had to be postponed, these closures helped push Julia toward expanding her career into the Film and TV industry.

Now that the arts are back up and running, Julia was able to finish her designs for The Sweet Delilah Swim Club in 2022, and is excited to be growing her career in the costume arts once more.
